Delhi - Amritsar Trip

Here I am again present for writing about another trip. This trip is to Delhi -Amritsar. After my transfer to Guwahati , we were thinking of a trip to spend some time together and get afresh. We booked ticket on the evening of 26th January to Delhi and requested my batchmate Souvik who had been working as a liasoning officer at Assam House, Delhi to book us a room there and eventually on the day of 27th January we set out for our journey. We had flight at about 2 P.M from LGBI airport . We reached Delhi by 4 p.m. After reaching Delhi we directly headed for the Assam House. Souvik welcomed us at Assam House and we were very delighted to meet him there.

After freshen up in our room we went out to explore the beautiful evening in Delhi City. We first went to the Connaught Place where Manu took me to "Nizams Kathi kabab", a Restaurent, a must visit place as it is famous for its Kathi Rolls. Both of us ordered Chicken Baba rolls. Manu became nostalgic about this place and Delhi in particular. Even though I have visited Delhi earlier also but for Manu the feeling was something different as she had studied in the famous Hindu College and Delhi School of Economics for her Graduation and Post-graduation and later worked in Delhi for near 2 years. Yet Delhi plays a special place in her heart and the same goes with me too. After all, Delhi is the Dilwalo ka Sahar. After having some shopping at the market area we reached the India Gate and enjoyed the night beauty of the magnificent India Gate and returned back to our room.

The next day morning we took a cab and headed to the Delhi airport and took our flight to Amritsar. It took us around an hour from Delhi to Amritsar by flight and we reached Amritsar 10.30 a.m. After landing at  Amritsar we booked a cab and headed towards hotel Hyatt Regency. The hotel was beautiful and posh and also much to our surprise we booked it in an affordable price. After resting for a while at the hotel we fixed the earlier taken cab and headed for the Wagah Border. The journey to Wagah border is very beautiful and serene. I have noticed that the Amritsar city is not a very big city. There were old households and gives us an impression of simplicity in the city. The mustard and paddy fields along the streets that led to the Wagah border gives a mind soothing touch.

On the way we had lunch at a dhaba named Chahali .It was a vegetarian dhaba. Manu made me tasted the  famous Sarso ka Saag and Makki ki roti for the very first time here. Being a non-vegetarian we had the chance to actually relish vegetarian food however, I feel only these kinda Punjabi dhabas justify that a vegetarian plate can also be such mouth watering!

After finishing our lunch we again started our journey to the Wagah Border and reached there by around 3.15 p.m. There is free entry  to visit the Wagah-Attary border for Beating Retreat programme. After security checking at the entrance we observed the biggest Indian Flag flying on the sky. Also noticed that at a distance one similar size Pakistani flag was also there. We entered in the main gallery to watch the famous Beating Retreat. We observed that a VIP gallery is also available where the foreigners are allowed or probably people referred by BSF may enter into it to have the best view of the program. However we entered into the general gallery and the program started at around 3.30 p.m. The gallery was entirely full in our side. We could also see people sitting at galleries on the Pakistani side. The program started with dancing on patriotic songs where some audience could also participate. One BSF jawan from our side coordinated or hosted the entire program. It was really a thrilling moment. Heart of every audience filled with the love for our motherland. Cheers for the motherland from both the side was really worth remembering. We noticed that people from difference parts of the country was present at the programme. Pakistani crowd seem to be light compared to Indian gathering in our side. Rapid, dance like manoeuvres and raising of legs as high as possible by both sides of jawans symbolises both the rivalry and brotherhood between the two nations. We also observed that after the gates of both side opens , both side exchanges travellers of both the countries.

After the program was over we returned back happily and proceed towards another place of visit at Amritsar, i.e the Golden Temple. When we reached the temple it was about 7.30p.m. The main temple was glittering in the golden shade. The architectural beauty and reflection of lights, the serenity of the surrounding pool and the overall atmosphere contributes to a feeling of tranquility to the body and mind. There is a ritual that no one can enter into the main premise of the sacred wearing shoes and without covering the head. We kept our shoes at the place designated for it. Also covered my head with the handkerchief that I purchased from the market surrounding the Golden Temple. Manu used her shawl for the purpose. There was a huge queue to enter into the main shrine but we couldn't help entering into it owing to the spiritual call that evoked from the serenity of this sacred place. However it did not take much time in the queue. The crowd was very nicely managed by the authorities and we were blessed to visit the sacred shrine inside. We noticed that though it was a sacred place of the Sikh community ,still people from all caste, creed and religion came to visit this place with devotion. After the visit we returned back to our hotel and had dinner.

Next day morning after breakfast we spent some peaceful time at the poolside. It was a nice sunny day at Amritsar in the month of January. Temperature was a bit warmer than it is in Assam during this time. We got ready and went to visit the famous Jaliwanwala Bagh. This is a place of historic importance. This is the place where hundreds of Indian freedom fighters were killed in a single day by the order of notorious British commander Gen. Dyre. The signs of bullets on the walls of this place are a tangible reminder of the massacre that took place on April 13,1919. Some Audio Visual shows were also being organised at this place to depict the cruelty of the colonial British Govt. However we couldn't spend much time there as we had to return back to Delhi by flight in the evening. After the visit we returned back to the hotel and packed our bags for our return journey to Delhi.

We reached again at Assam house, Delhi by the evening. Then got fresh and Manu took me to the Select City Walk mall in Delhi which is one of the biggest malls in Delhi. We had some shopping there and spent some time in the Delhi city roaming around. Had dinner and returned back to our room to take rest.

The next day we had our breakfast. We decided to visit the famous Akshardham Mandir at Delhi which I never visited earlier. We took an auto and reached the place. The temple is very beautiful. It displays the hindu culture ,spirituality and architecture. Mobile phones, electronic gadget, bags etc. are not allowed inside the premise. It may be deposited at designated areas. Therefore we could not take photo inside the temple. The main deity of the temple is Swaminarayan who was a spiritual guru or a godly being.

After returning back to room, bid adieu to Shouvik and finally headed to the Delhi Airport for our return journey to Guwahati.

Here we are signing off just to meet you with our another travel vlog. See you again.
